In the presence of the Vice President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), KACST held the regular meeting for Maeen Network members today, March, 27th.
Maeen Network latest developments have been presented. The members discussed ways to further advance cooperation through the network. They further discussed future projects and opportunities.
The Vice President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in support of scientific research, Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Athel said that the network is a national research network work that is parallel with the current Internet network. Having high speeds of up to 10,000 megabits per second, Maeen Network is able to deliver the speed and efficiency requirements of the scientific research needs of its subscribers. Maeen Network is a network dedicated to serving scientific, research and industrial purposes and helping researchers among others to benefit from relevant services by creating an environment suitable for research and innovation in the Kingdom in line with the vision of the Kingdom 2030.
Dr. Al-Athel said that Maeen Network has built unique partnerships with similar scientific research and education networks in Europe, America and Asia to facilitate communication between researchers around the world. Maeen Network has linked to the Internet2 network. This link connects subscribers to a network with more than 113,000 academic institutions, 42 educational networks and 65 research networks representing and more than 80 million researchers and specialists representing more than 125 countries around the world.
Dr. Al-Athel added that the network works with its partners to provide the necessary facilities in education, research, innovation, development and industry, including universities, research centers, libraries, schools, museums, hospitals and industry in the Kingdom, serving all academics, researchers, doctors, university students, teachers and school students.
Maeen Network is characterized by high reliability, efficiency and high availability through its branches in Riyadh and Jeddah, which facilitates the flow of a large amount of data with the necessary processing and storage, and enable around-the-clock access. Maeen Network provides a number of services such as Cloud computing and information security by global standards and advisory services, as well as network access to hosting services, domain names, data storage and academic news service. The network also has a unique infrastructure that enables it to integrate with many services, such as high-speed computers, local and international e-books, e-learning and virtual labs.
